PROGRAM

Our guest speaker will be local author and historian Alice Alexander speaking about communities on the west end of Clallam County as outlined in her new book “West of the Elwha.”

 

September 20, 2016 Meeting Minutes

Executive Meeting

Program of Work: A yearly calendar of presenters for the monthly meetings was handed out. The presenters for today were Colleen Robinson and Trisha Davis speaking about Habitat For Humanity. Presenters need to be contacted to see if they need the use of power point in their presentation. Next month’s presenter will be Alice Alexander sharing information on local history.

Business: *Benefit Fairs: Lora Brabant, Marcia Homer, and Linda Frazer attended the Sequim School District benefits fair on August 25th. Lora Brabant attended the Port Angeles School District fair on August 29th and was able to sign up 12 new members with the possibility of 5 more to join. Lora has also contacted Joyce School District about being at their benefits fair next year. Marcia Homer and Linda Frazer will work together to send a thank you to each new member.

*On September 27, 2016, Lora Brabant, Gary Gleason, and Marcia Homer will attend the SW/3 meeting in Bremerton.

*An additional 185 books were delivered to First Step by Lora Brabant. This now makes a total of 264 books our group has donated to First Step this year. First Step greatly appreciated all the books. We will continue to collect new and slightly used books for First Step.

*The book club meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 1pm to 2:30 at Traylor’s Library.

*Lora Brabant contacted three school districts on August 20, 2016 regarding mini grants. The application forms will be sent electronically to the districts in November and put on their district websites.

*Lora Brabant and Beverly Brown will be attending the October 13th luncheon at Peninsula College to be part of the recognition of recipients and donors of the Isabelle Whitfield scholarship.

*Gary Gleason shared that, this year, there will be more money distributed from the Naddy grants.

*Lora Brabant shared that Michelle Guerin is retiring at the state level. A card was passed around for individuals to sign.

*A thank you letter was received from Rick Nebeker, WSSRA president, who was a guest at our picnic in June.

*Ideas for local field trips were discussed. A decision for these trips will be made by our next meeting.

*Marcia Homer invited everyone to a Sweet Adelines Pie Social and musical on October 23, 2016.

General Meeting

We celebrated one September birthday for Arlene Morganroth.

Mike Chapman was introduced. He shared information about himself and the upcoming election.

Colleen Robinson and Trisha Davis were introduced. They gave a presentation on Habitat For Humanity. They explained what the local organization is doing as well as what is taking place globally.

Lora Brabant shared about our participation in the recent Benefits Fairs for Sequim and Port Angeles School districts.

Twelve new members joined.

Announcements from the board were made regarding mini grants and future field trips. Field trip schedule will be available at our next meeting.
