Meeting, February 20, 2018

If you are a new member, welcome! If you are still working as a school employee, we know that it is unlikely that you can attend, but we want to keep you aware of what we do. If you are a cash member who pays dues once a year and you choose to change to dues deduction, please let us know. Your reward will be $10 off your first luncheon at Joshua’s Restaurant after you sign up. Any new person who joins us will get a free lunch the next time they come. We also have a door prize at each meeting. Remember to sign in to get a chance to win.

Port Angeles

This month’s speaker will be our own Eve Datisman. Eve is an avid reader and former school librarian. She will be sharing amazing reading ideas in her presentation: Spring the Trap: Books That Won’t Let You Go!

Please reply if you will be attending.

Reserve your spot for lunch by 3:00 the Sunday prior to each meeting by calling Darlene Jones (360-457-5352) or Marcia Homer (360-683-4317). It’s okay to come even if you miss the deadline. We just like to have a general idea so the restaurant knows how many places to set.

Please mark your calendars. We will continue to meet the third Tuesday of the month in 2018. The dates are:  March 20th, April 17th, and May 15th, followed by our annual potluck picnic on June 26th. More information will follow about presenters to come. They include Bob Steelquist, Genealogy, and Clallam County Parks.

It’s getting closer to the time of year when we will elect officers to CCSRA positions. We would welcome anyone who would like to serve. If you are at all interested, please let any officer know. Current officers are President Lora Brabant, Vice President Gary Gleason, Secretary Linda Frazer, and Treasurer Arlene Morganroth. Most officers have been on the job for quite awhile. Serving on committees would be another way to help. Membership, scholarships and mini grants, program planning.

We are collecting new and gently used children’s books and/or funds to buy them as a community service project this year again. You can bring books or monetary donations to any meeting.  Books will go to First Step in Port Angeles and to Head Start in Sequim. Both places are happy to get books.

Lora is starting to collect items for the WSSRF (Washington State School Retirees Foundation) gift baskets which will be taken to the WSSRA convention in June. If you would like to donate something, please bring it to a meeting or contact Lora about delivering it to her house. Contributions should be given to her by the May 15th meeting.

We are also providing the opportunity for members to contribute to the Political Action Committee of WSSRA. The committee works to encourage elected officials to pay attention to issues that affect us and our pensions.

BOOK CLUB: at 1:00 on second Thursday  This month it was on the 8th. On the second Thursday of each month, we have a book club meeting in the Library at Traylor’s Restaurant at 1:00.  Bring a book to share or learn about some books you might want to read – an informal meeting of folks who like to read. Come and enjoy the camaraderie and a meal or snack. This group meets year round. Next month it will be on the 8th.
