Meeting, May 15, 2018


If you are a new member, welcome! If you are still working as a school employee, we know that it is unlikely that you can attend, but we want to keep you aware of what we do. If you are a cash member who pays dues once a year and you choose to change to dues deduction, please let us know. Your reward will be $10 off your first luncheon at Joshua’s Restaurant after you sign up. Any new person who joins us will get a free lunch the next time they come. We also have a door prize at each meeting. Remember to sign in to get a chance to win.

CCSRA LUNCH – Tuesday, May 15th at NOON

Our speaker will be local naturalist and author Robert Steelquist who will be talking about his new book “Northwest Coast Explorer.” He will have copies with him for sale for $25 (cash or check). The book is also available at Port Book & News in Port Angeles.

Please reply if you will be attending.

Reserve your spot for lunch by 3:00 the Sunday prior to each meeting by calling Darlene Jones (360-457-5352) or Marcia Homer (360-683-4317).  It’s okay to come even if you miss the deadline. We just like to have a general idea so the restaurant knows how many places to set.

Soup, Soup and Salad, just Salad Bar, a Lunch Special, or off the Menu
Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner items are offered.


Our annual potluck picnic will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 26th at the 4 Seasons Ranch Clubhouse in Port Angeles.  We hope some of you who are still working will join us for this event.

We welcome anyone who would like to serve our organization in any capacity. If you are at all interested, please let any officer know. Current officers are President Lora Brabant, Vice President Gary Gleason, Secretary Linda Frazer, and Treasurer Arlene Morganroth. Some committees are membership, scholarships and mini grants, program planning.

We are collecting new and gently used children’s books and/or funds to buy them as a community service project this year again. You can bring books or monetary donations to any meeting.  Books will go to First Step in Port Angeles and to Head Start in Sequim. Both places are happy to get books. We will distribute this year’s collection after the May meeting.

Lora has been collecting items for the WSSRF (Washington State School Retirees Foundation) gift baskets which will be taken to the WSSRA convention in June. If you would like to donate something, please bring it to the May 15th meeting or contact Lora about delivering it to her house.


We are providing the opportunity for members to contribute to the Political Action Committee of WSSRA. The committee works to encourage elected officials to pay attention to issues that affect us and our pensions.  You can now donate directly to the PAC online at this website: <>  using a credit card and the “Donate Now” button, or click on the “Contribute” button which pops up under the “Donate Now” to find the form to print out and mail it with your check for a donation.

Also, Lora is selling beautiful, hand-made greeting cards for just $1 each. All proceeds will benefit the WSSR-PAC (Washington State School Retirees-Political Action Committee).

BOOK CLUB: at 1:00 on second Thursday   On the second Thursday of each month, we have a book club meeting in the Library at Traylor’s Restaurant at 1:00.  Bring a book to share or learn about some books you might want to read – an informal meeting of folks who enjoy reading. Come and enjoy the camaraderie and a meal or snack. This group meets year round. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 10th.

Minutes – April 17, 2018 Meeting

Executive Board Meeting
April 17, 2018

President Lora Brabant called the meeting to order at 10:09 a.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant in Port Angeles.
Lora Brabant, Arlene Morganroth, and Linda Frazer were present.

Minutes:  It was moved and seconded that the minutes be approved as presented. The motion passed.

Program of Work:  The presenter for today will be Bruce Giddens, Park Supervisor for Clallam County Parks.


 *Lora gave a reminder to bring books for First Step or donate money so books can be purchased. The books will be delivered in May.

*This year we will be doing low cost fundraisers each month for PAC (Washington State School Retirees’
Political Action Committee). Lora explained that it is best for each member to donate at least $25 for the
year to PAC. At this point of giving, names from the contributors can be listed for the legislators to see as supporters of political interests for WSSRA. Lora sharerd that $10 was collected in February as well as $52 in card sales for PAC. Lora will be selling the cards at the state convention also.

*There will be a free lunch for first time, new members. Cash members who switch to dues deduction can get $10 off their next lunch.

*The book club meets on the second Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Traylor’s Library.

*A thank you card was sent to Barry Burnett. He is retiring this year from Port Angeles School District and has been a faithful PAEA president for many years.

*Annual reports are due May 31, 2018

*Marie Cauvel sent a letter of resignation for the position of Historian which she has held for a number of years.

*We are accepting nominations for CCSRA Community Service Award due by May 15, 2018. Presentation date will be June 19, 2018, at our potluck at 4 Season’s Ranch.

* On March 22, 2018 the Port Angeles School District recognized CCSRA at their meeting. Lora Brabant, Beverly Brown, Gary Gleason, and Daisy were in attendence.

*State Conference attendees are asked to fill out “Conference Request” form and then after conference fill out “Travel Expense Claim” form and submit to Arlene for reimbursement.

*Lora asked that items for the Foundation baskets that will be taken to the WSSRA state convention be brought by May 15th to our monthly meetings or May 22nd to her house—125 W. 11th St, Port Angeles.

*SW-3 meeting will be April 24, 2018 in Bremerton. Lora and Linda will be attending. Lora will be SW-3 chair-person for next year.

* Our next meeting will be May 15, 2018 at Joshua’s Restaurant at 10 a. m. Installation of officers will take place at this time.  Bob Steelquist will be the speaker for this meeting.
