Meeting, October 17, 2017

If you are a new member, welcome! If you are still working as a school employee, we know that it is unlikely that you can attend, but we want to keep you aware of what we do. If you are a cash member who pays dues once a year and choose to change to dues deduction, please let us know. Your reward will be $10 off your first luncheon at Joshua’s Restaurant after you sign up. Any new person who joins us will get a free lunch the next time they come. We also have a door prize at each meeting. Remember to sign in to get a chance to win.

CCSRA LUNCH – Tuesday, October 17th at NOON

Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 N. DelGuzzi Drive, Port Angeles

Our guest speakers will be D Bellamente from the Port Angeles Senior Center and Michelle Rhodes from the Shipley Center (Senior Center) in Sequim. They will be telling us about activities and excursions. Both facilities have many activities and classes and also have plenty of exciting field trips. You don’t have to be a member to go, but you get a better price if you join. Come and get some good ideas for fun things to do.

Please reply if you will be attending.

Reserve your spot for lunch by 3:00 the Sunday prior to each meeting by calling Darlene Jones (360-457-5352) or Marcia Homer (360-683-4317). It’s okay to come even if you miss the deadline. We just like to have a general idea so the restaurant knows how many places to set.

Menu items start at $8.

Soup, Soup and Salad, just Salad Bar, a Lunch Special, or off-the-Menu  Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner items are offered.

Our officers for this year are: Lora Brabant, president; Gary Gleason, vice president; Linda Frazer, secretary; Arlene Morganroth, treasurer.

Special Acknowledgements:

We would like to thank Dee Gardner, the general manager, and Terry our amazing waitress at Joshua’s Restaurant for going above and beyond for us when we meet there. They treat us very well and we really appreciate it. We are also very grateful for the delicious desserts they have been giving us for free each month. Delicious! Thank you, Dee and Terry!

We would also like to thank the Bremerton Elks Club for allowing our district meetings to take place in their building for a very reduced rate since we are non-profit. School retirees representatives from Clallam, Kitsap, Pierce, Jefferson, and Mason Counties meet there three times a year, in September, February, and April. Another small group meets there in March to choose scholarship recipients which are announced at the state convention in June. Thank you, Bremerton Elks! You help make our work possible.

We will be collecting new and gently used children’s books and/or funds to buy them as a community service project this year again. You can bring books or monetary donations to any meeting.  Books will go to First Step in Port Angeles and to Head Start in Sequim. Both places are happy to get books.

BOOK CLUB: at 1:00 on second Thursday  This month it’s on the 12th.

On the second Thursday of each month, we have a book club meeting in the Library at Traylor’s Restaurant at 1:00.  Bring a book to share or learn about some books you might want to read – an informal meeting of folks who like to read. Come and enjoy the camaraderie and a meal or snack. This group meets year round.

On November 21st Steve Hauff will give a presentation on the Spruce Railroad. That program will be an hour long, so plan for that. It will be well worth your time.

On December 19th Kathy Estes from the Clallam County Historical Society will present some interesting Christmas artifacts and we’ll all join in a sing-along.

Mark your calendars for the third Tuesday of the month from now through May. We hope to see you often! If you are interested in helping with any of our projects or serving on a committee, please talk to any board member or contact me, and I’ll pass it along.
